Empathy in Action
April is National Volunteer Month, and the theme this year is Empathy in Action. This theme is perfect as it affirms the strong connection between volunteerism and empathy.
Here at Visual Vitality, we believe in giving back to community, and that is why we are getting excited to volunteer in the Para Athletes Tent at the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18th. It’s a great time to see all the diverse racers, the other volunteers and to hear their stories. If you are participating, of if you decide to go to the marathon this year, stop by and say hi!
If you’ve been considering volunteering, keep in mind that there are so many ways that you can give back such as mentoring , serving on a board or committee, helping out in various community settings.
Ways You Can Celebrate National Volunteer Month
Volunteers with a shared purpose can make a significant impact in the world and in our neighborhoods. Here are a few ideas to celebrate through service and appreciation:
- Serve at a local children’s hospital to show love and support for the families.
- Serve a meal at a local homeless shelter.
- Collect supplies for a food, clothing or book drive.
- Participate in a fundraising event.
“At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished… it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” –
Denzel Washington
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?” —
Martin Luther King, Jr.
